At the age of 24, I suffered a head injury that put me on bed rest for nearly a year. I was highly encouraged to not participate in any contact sports that would increase my chance of collision. After 11 months of bed rest and mild walking (basically around the block), I was cleared to start exercising again. Initially, I was intimidated to come back to the gym.
I was weak, de-conditioned and confused on where to even begin. I knew it had to start somewhere so I took what I knew and put it into practice. By following the steps and tracking my progress, I became more consistent and saw real results. At this point, fitness wasn’t just about looking good, it became an outlet and a part of my every-day routine. It’s a constant reminder that life will try to knock you down, weigh you down, and keep you down. Fitness teaches you how to push back through the struggles but also rewards you with a strong body and mindset. Today, I enjoy all realms of fitness: H.I.I.T. (high intensity interval training), Olympic Weightlifting, functional movement-based workouts, kettlebell workouts, and bodybuilding concepts.
